Earlier this year, Italian luxury watch manufacturer Officine Panerai Replica revealed five new watches in honor of its recently announced partnership with the 35th America’s Cup and two of the teams racing for the world’s oldest sporting trophy: defender Oracle Team USA and challenger SoftBank Team Japan. The America’s Cup heads into the final rounds this weekend in Bermuda, and racing will take place every weekend from now until June 26, 2017.
Though Panerai has often been associated with classic yacht events (see Dramatic Scenery On And Off The Wrist: Panerai Classic Yachts Challenge At British Classic Week), until now it has not participated in the high-tech world of the America’s Cup, which is hailed as the Formula 1 of sailing.
Three of the new watches are official timekeepers made in honor of Oracle Team USA. This team skippered by two-time America’s Cup champion Jimmy Spithill is the “defender,” meaning the winner of the last America’s Cup.
These three Replica watches in honor of Oracle Team USA include: the Luminor 1950 Oracle Team USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Ceramica 44 mm (PAM00725); the Luminor 1950 Regatta Oracle Team USA 3 Days Chrono Flyback Automatic Titanio 47 mm (PAM00726); and the Luminor Marina Oracle Team USA 8 Days Acciaio 44 mm (PAM00724).
The defender is simultaneously the team that organizes the race. For this reason, Panerai also created an official repllica watch of the 35th America’s Cup: the Luminor Marina 1950 America’s Cup 3 Days Automatic Acciaio 44 mm (PAM00727).
